About Dr. Imran Hayat

My scholarly philosophy is founded on the conviction that academic work should preserve the intellectual depth of inherited traditions while responding responsibly to the conditions of the present. Scholarship becomes meaningful when it combines textual accuracy, methodological discipline, intellectual independence, and ethical accountability.

I therefore approach Islamic Studies as a field that must remain grounded in its foundational sources while engaging constructively with contemporary law, society, governance, technology, and global intellectual debates. Rather than treating tradition and modernity as inherently opposed, my work seeks areas of dialogue, tension, continuity, and critical reassessment.

Across teaching, research, editing, and institutional development, I aim to promote evidence-based inquiry, conceptual clarity, respectful disagreement, and scholarship that contributes to both academic understanding and public benefit.

My teaching philosophy views education as more than the transfer of information. Effective teaching should develop intellectual discipline, ethical awareness, analytical confidence, and the capacity for independent learning.

In undergraduate and postgraduate classrooms, I encourage students to engage closely with primary texts, established scholarship, contemporary debates, and research methods. I place particular emphasis on clear concepts, structured argument, academic writing, comparative analysis, and the responsible use of evidence.

My experience includes university teaching, postgraduate research methodology, Cambridge O Level Islamiyat and Arabic, undergraduate courses in religion and gender, and graduate research supervision. Across these contexts, my objective remains consistent: to make demanding academic material accessible without reducing its complexity.

Mentorship is central to this work. I support students in refining research questions, developing methodology, strengthening academic writing, and connecting their work with broader scholarly and societal concerns.

Dr. Imran Hayat's academic leadership extends across university teaching, postgraduate supervision, editorial service, institutional development, peer review, curriculum support, and scholarly communication.

As Founder and Director of the Al-Hayat Research Institute of Social Sciences, he leads an interdisciplinary academic initiative serving Religious Studies, Social Sciences, and Arts and Humanities. The institute supports research, publication, academic collaboration, training, and the development of accessible scholarly resources.

As Editor of the AL-HAYAT Research Journal, he contributes to the management of a quarterly, trilingual, double-blind, peer-reviewed, open-access journal recognised in the HEC Journal Recognition System. His editorial work includes scholarly quality assurance, peer-review coordination, interdisciplinary scope development, and support for emerging researchers.

He also serves as a research supervisor, thesis evaluator, external examiner, and peer reviewer for academic journals. These responsibilities reflect a wider commitment to strengthening research culture, academic standards, and responsible scholarly publication.

Dr. Imran Hayat's international experience includes academic, educational, and religious engagements in Germany, Norway, Turkey, and Iran.

He served at the Islamic Centre Hamburg as an imam and teacher of Islamic Studies, Arabic, and Social Studies, and later worked as a visiting religious scholar and lecturer at the Islamic Cultural Centre Oslo. He also participated in a DAAD-supported academic study programme in Germany and undertook educational and study visits to Turkey and Iran.

These experiences contributed to his understanding of Muslim communities in diverse social settings and strengthened his interest in interfaith relations, pluralism, minority concerns, education, and the public role of religious scholarship.
